MISSION & HISTORY

OUR MISSION

To inspire and enable young people to realize their full potential and contribute to their communities.

OUR VISION

With a tireless commitment from our staff, our families and communities, Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County aims to ensure that every youth who walk through our doors, will exit the clubs having achieved academic success by gaining the 21st century skills needed for future success, and developing plan during their time at the Club that facilitates the continuation of their academic growth in a post-secondary education setting and in today’s rapidly evolving workforce. We instill values, promote decision making, and teach our youth to make healthy choices and be physically active daily to benefit their minds, bodies, and spirits as they emerge in the world as adults. The vision is complete when we know that each youth exhibits a positive sense of self and others, and is committed to giving back to their communities as committed leaders and successful citizens of the world.

OUR HISTORY

For over 65 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County have been a  community staple and a positive, driving force for youth development and academic empowerment. Today, we are elevating our legacy by ensuring that our Youth’s future academic success and a future in today’s workforce is equal and accessible to all youth in Pacifica.

South San Francisco Boys Club was founded in 1953 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to create a safe, positive place for young boys to go play sports.  Erected in 1961, our flagship clubhouse at Orange Park, was dedicated by Herbert Hoover in 1961.  The Pacifica Boys Club was founded in 1965 as a separate organization, focusing on providing a safe space for boys in the Pacifica community. In 1980, Pacifica Boys Club merged with South San Francisco Boys Club. In alignment with Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s decision to officially include ‘girls’ in the Club name, and to accurately reflect our service areas, in 1993 we became known as Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County. In 2022, our journey continues with a refocusing of the community we serve to Pacifica, CA. Home to roughly 7,000 youth, BGCNSMC continues to provide access to safe spaces, enriching curriculum, and community resources for the youth of Pacifica.

Well Known, Trusted Community Asset. Our Club Alumni still live and/or work in the communities we have served, and work in a host of different professions including teachers, police, business owners, and corporate employees. Our partnership in Pacifica span both wide and deep and include city municipalities, school districts and business chambers; this is strengthened by our Board of Directors, who are leaders within Pacifica and it’s surrounding communities.
